It's a rebadged e90 Sprinter sedan and Sprinter Cielo, which are heavily based on the e90 Corolla. However, these got the 4A-GE engine as an option, which the e90 Corolla sedan and wagon never got in the US.

Used to see them e90 corolla's in Africa a lot. Really popular car there, probably the most jalop car over there. There are no sports cars in west africa.

My first car was an '89 (?) Geo Prizm, although not a GSi model. Still, with 14" wheels & Pirelli tires, it handled pretty well. I finally got rid of it after 250K+ miles on the clock. The engine still ran like a top.
